The article examines the evolution of the autobiography genre in Hans Christian Andersen works beginning with his “Life Story”, which focuses on the author’s inner world, and finishing with “My Life as a Fairy Tale” in which the emphasis is transferred from the image of the inner world to a story about people, whom he met, as well as to the events he observed, and to how he and his works were treated in his homeland and abroad.
