Youth of Gavrila Derzhavin. A Few Comments on the Poet’s Autobiographical Notes
Abstract
The article offers a historical and cultural commentary on several facts and events described in The first two sections of Gavrila Derzhavin’s autobiographical “Notes”: the provincial city where the poet spent his infancy, the participation of the high school student Derzhavin in the archaeological excavations of ancient Bulgar in 1761 and the beginning of his service in the guard on the eve of the Palace coup in 1762.
