Comparative Constructions “orange as”, “pink as”, “purple as” (on the material of the Balkan Slavic languages)
Abstract
Comparative constructions “orange as”, “pink as”, “purple as” are rare. The found examples give an ambiguous idea of the characterized color. The same constructions are used to clarify different colors: pink and orange, pink and purple. This article discusses the semantic restrictions on the compatibility of these color terms. The material demonstrates that the close Balkan Slavic languages may use different strategies for constructing comparisons. The use of the comparative constructions shows the meanings unnoticed in dictionaries.
