On the Periphery of the Intermedial Space. Russian Émigré Graphic Novel
Abstract
The article is devoted to a little-known phenomenon of mass culture – the appeal of comics book creators to the subjects of Russian classics. The most representative examples of the Yugoslav graphic novel based on the works of A.S. Pushkin, N.V. Gogol and L.N. Tolstoy are considered. They were published in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia in the 1930s – early 1940s. The authors of hand-drawn books were Russian graphic artists. An attempt is made to observe such appeals to the Russian writers plots presented in the modern two-volume reprint of Yugoslav comics (“Russian Comics 1935–1945. Kingdom of Yugoslavia”). The graphic novel has become one of the peripheral forms of intermediality.
