Myth is Abstraction or Reality? Portrait of the Phenomenon “myth” in the Minds of Native Speakers of the Russian Language
Abstract
The article considers the individual author’s understanding of the abstract phenomenon “myth” by A.F. Losev in comparison with lexicographic representation of the name ‘myth’ in explanatory dictionaries and with the material of the National Corpus of the Russian language. The compatibility of the noun ‘myth’ in its second, non-literary meaning is chosen as the subject of linguistic description. To identify the projective meanings inherent in the phenomenon under study in the specified spheres of Russian culture and their textual spaces, the method of continuous sampling of the compatibility of the name from the contexts of its use was used. As a result of the research, the portrait of the myth is reconstructed, as it appears to the average carrier of the Russian-speaking picture of the world and one of the pillars of Russian philosophical thought.
