The article concerns the contact-typological parallel of two literary texts – “Zashita” (“Defence”) by V. Nabokov / Sirin (1930) and “Schachnovelle” (“The Royal Game”) by S. Zweig. The author of the article discovered the thematic similarity correlation as well as correlation at the levels of the problems, plot, characters etc. The chronological paradox of the parallel lies in the fact that it is Zweig’s novel that stands out for its traditional, realistic manner, although it was written 10 years later than “Defence”, a novel that marked the birth of a new style –that is of mystical Metafiction.
