“Frenzied Troops” (“Das wütende Heer”) or “The Wild Hunt” (“Die wilde Jagd”) in the Structure of Traditional Mythological Ideas of German People
Abstract
The article discusses the images of «Das Wütende Heer» and «Die Wilde Jagd» in the traditional German mythology. A lot of the famous poems in the German literature – «Lützows wilde verwegene Jagd» of K.T. Körner and «Der Wilde Jäger» of G.A. Bürger are closely connected with the images of the German mythology and the German national folklore tradition. In the poem of K.T. Körner the heroic struggle of the German people against Napoleon is considered simultaneously with the well-known theme of the German mythology – «die wilde Jagd», «das wütende Heer» with the principal German God Wodan (Odin) at the head. The poem «Der wilde Jäger» of G.A. Bürger is consecrated with the traditional image of the German Mythology.
