Russia of the First World War in Diaries and Memoirs by Slovenian Prisoners
Abstract
The article comprises the works of three authors, which are, in our opinion, of great interest for historians, literary historians, and scholars in culture studies: They are diary notes by Franz Zupanchich, Alexander Lichan’s book “Memories of Siberia” and “Autobiography of Humanitarian” of Voeslav Mole “From the Book of Memories”. In their perception of Russia and the Russians, these authors demonstrate their different social status and individual differences of their nature. However, despite all the differences, works by Zupanchich, Lichan and Mole present exactly reconstructed realities of their time, allow to experience its atmosphere, adding new features to the portrait of Russia of that time.
