Concerning the Historical Context of William Shakespeare’s Life and Works (Part Two). The Reign of Queen Elizabeth
Abstract
The article is devoted to describing Elizabethan England (its home and foreign policy) and to discarding popular myths concerning this epoch. Special attention is given to religious persecutions and to discussing little-known facts of William Shakespeare’s biography testifying to his connections with the Catholic underground – the subject of heated debates in modern Shakespearology.
