Russian Opera on the Macedonian Stage
Abstract
The article traces back the 70 years of Russian opera stagings in Macedonia, laying emphasis on their frequency, dynamics, and artistic value. It is argued that there were three sets of problems along the way – repertoire strategies of the Macedonian National Opera House, ʽOpera Evenings in Mayʼ composition, and life values and beliefs of Macedonian opera performers, and the problems are studied historically and chronologically.
